Some facts about them:

1. These are herd animals. The herd usually consists of a dominant male (leader), adult females with whelps and young of different age. Sometimes, in the absence of a suitable male for the role of leader, the herd can be led by the most experienced female.

2. Males and females are not differ from each other externally (though males are slightly larger), however, dominant males under the influence of hormones begin to change color and their fur becomes ashy. Such animals become very aggressive to other males with a "dominant" color. Males that don't exhibit dominant behavior for some reason, remain with a "female" color and can live quietly in their native herd (however, they have no chances to produce offspring)

3. Kabaras reach sexual maturity by 3 years. Cub's color is completely changed by the first year of life, however, young animals have no stripes on the fur and their color is lighter. The dominant color of males begins to appear after 5-6 years. Kabara life expectancy can reach 20-25 years.

4. Huge claws on their paws are used mainly for searching for food, but also they are very formidable weapons both for protection against predators and for fighting between representatives of their own species. The fight of males is not only impressive, but also quite bloody spectacle. The animals mercilessly tear each other by claws, bite and break bones, trying to knock the enemy off their feet. The battles end with the death of one of the rivals very often.

5. Females give birth to only one cub once a season. Cubs are born quite developed and able to move within a couple of hours after birth. In the first months of life, the cub always keeps under the mother's belly under the protection of huge claws. Mothers with whelps are the most aggressive creatures in the world and are ready to tear anyone who dares to harm their child. However, as soon as the cub grows up and can't fits under the mother's belly, she stops feeding it with milk and drives it away.

6. Kabara is an omnivore. Most of their diet is plant food, however, sometimes these animals can eat food of animal origin. For example, in especially harsh times of hunger, kabars can eat their own fallen brethren.

7. Kabaras have fat deposits along the spine, which animals accumulate during the period of plenty and use as a reserve. Kabara can go without water for up to 2 weeks, without food for up to a whole month.

8. The sounds that kabaras make are very similar to low mooing.
