This is FANTASTIC. I love it I made a comic last year about a cat named Alice the chosen defender of earth created by Luna the cat goddess, your art just reminded me of it so much haha outstanding job.
I would say that cats are not the evil spirits despite that people don't like them or see them as a witch's pet. My guess is that cats are treated unfairly and need lots of love and respect.
I believe that the evil being referenced here is shown in the background as the smokestacks polluting the night air. In actuality, the cats are gathering around the haven of the entity's aura and the entity responds by conjuring pure water for them to drink.
On another note, cats are often chosen as a witch's familiar because of their intelligence and loyalty despite their independence. Their passive yet inquisitive nature appeals to magic users, as they help keep one's mind focused and calm.
All animals are treated unfairly nowadays. Cats experienced a long period of persecution due to propaganda from authorities in various churches misinterpreting or fabricating biblical "facts." This picture seems to be more of a representation of both magic and felines finding a haven and redemption.
That's my feelings, anyway. I find it best to look positively on every piece here, then other things just fall into place.
I know, but I guess that's why my mom and grandma hated cats. But cats are cats, it's not like they're bad luck. In Japan, they thought of the Japanese Bobtail cat as good luck. In Ancient Egypt time, they were worshiped cats as gods, I personally thought of cats as both good luck and gods.
